Recorded in 1968, Introducing Kenny Cox and The Contemporary Jazz Quintet was the debut album by this under-recognized Detroit band led by pianist Kenny Cox which featured trumpeter Charles Moore, tenor saxophonist Leon Henderson, bassist Ron Brooks, and drummer Danny Spencer. The band’s brand of post-bop was certainly influenced by the Miles Davis Quintet, but exhibited its own unique sensibilities on memorable originals like “Mystique,” “Trance Dance,” and David Durrah’s beautiful piece “You”.
