Grammy award winning Stan Kenton enjoyed the summer of 1941 playing regularly for an appreciative audience at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa beach, California. The west coast jazzman was revered for his innovative bandleading and melodically driven compositions which fused modern classical with traditional jazz. He returned frequently to The Rendezvous and this intimate recording is taken from one of those later shows in 1958. Whilst Kenton was a master composer and arranger, perhaps his finest skill was the ability to spot and cultivate talent. He helped launch and develop the careers of jazz greats including Art Pepper, Stan Getx, Anita O’Day, and June Christy. ‘At the Rendezvous Ballroom’ features musicians of the highest calibre. A double album recorded by master engineer Wally Heider's - remastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on colour edition vinyl.
