Back in the late 1960's on the west coast of America it was not hip to like country music but when The Byrds invited Ingram Cecil Connor III, Gram Parsons to you & me, to join them as either a band member or a hired hand depending on whose side of the story you favour they helped found country rock. Of course they had previously led the way in the folk rock genre but country music was another matter. In expanding their repertoire to include the music of America's white working class The Byrds were also adding to nascent Americana, not bad for 11 songs on an album that could have been artistic suicide.
