This month felt like someone cranked open the floodgates: Mac DeMarco doing his lo-fi thing, Ethel Cain's haunting storytelling, Wolf Alice still sounding like the best band of their generation. We’ve had Deftones return with Private Music - a lean, hypnotic trip that proves they’re still masters of noise and nuance. And don’t sleep on new heat from Quadeca, Laufey, Jane Remover, Alison Goldfrapp and Yaya Bey.
Add to that a solo drop from Hayley Williams - Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party is raw, intimate, and full of soul. If you loved Petals For Armor, this one digs even deeper.
CMAT is back with EURO-COUNTRY (equal parts cosmic and country), Nova Twins go full hybrid with Parasites & Butterflies.
There’s been plenty of gold dust repressed this month. Think Mazzy Star, The Who, Coldplay, Duster, John Coltraneand Tyler, The Creator - all back on vinyl, many in lush indie exclusive variants.
One standout: George Harrison’s 50th Anniversary edition of All Things Must Pass – a spiritual, sprawling masterpiece, now sounding better than ever with remixes overseen by Dhani Harrison and Paul Hicks.
And we can’t not mention our new favourite cult icon: Masayoshi Takanaka. Six of his gloriously funky, tropi-cool albums have landed from Japan for the first time on 180g coloured vinyl - lovingly remastered at Abbey Road. Pure summer-in-your-headphone bliss. Mike couldn’t help but check them out!
