Kathleen Edwards returns with Billionaire, her first album since 2020, released via Dualtone Records. Produced by Jason Isbell and Gena Johnson, the ten-track set draws on the lyrical bite and observational wit that first won acclaim with her 2003 debut, Failer.
Regarded as a foundational figure in modern alt-country and Americana, Edwards is praised for her candid storytelling and dry humour—qualities that earned high praise from The New York Times and comparisons to great short story writers. Billionaire finds her back in full form, delivering wry and emotionally articulate songs with the seasoned perspective of a master songwriter.
Edwards' previous release, Total Freedom, marked a triumphant return after nearly a decade away from music and was hailed by outlets including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The New Yorker. She has been nominated for JUNO and Americana Awards and was awarded the SOCAN Songwriting Prize in 2012. Her recent covers EP featured guest appearances from Isbell, Bahamas and Daniel Tashian, with tracks by Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and The Flaming Lips.
