Released in 2012, Wrecking Ball is Bruce Springsteen’s seventeenth studio album and one of his most politically charged records. Written in the aftermath of the financial crisis, the album tackles economic hardship, inequality, resilience and the impact of a changing America.
Opening with We Take Care of Our Own, Wrecking Ball moves between powerful E Street-style rock, folk, gospel and Irish influences. Highlights include Death to My Hometown, Jack of All Trades, Rocky Ground and the defiant title track, originally written to mark the demolition of New Jersey’s Giants Stadium.
The album also features Land of Hope and Dreams, a long-standing Springsteen live favourite finally given a studio release. It includes one of Clarence Clemons’ final recorded performances with Springsteen before his death in 2011.
Wrecking Ball reached No. 1 in both the UK and US and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
