Clifford Jordan Quartet - Night Of The Mark VII Clifford Jordan Quartet

Originally released in 1975 by Muse Records, Night of the Mark VII is a hard bop gem that captures tenor saxophonist Clifford Jordan in peak form alongside an all-star rhythm section featuring Cedar Walton on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums.

The quartet’s chemistry is electric, delivering a set of straight-ahead jazz that balances drive with deep lyricism. Highlights like “One for Amos,” “Midnight Waltz,” and the moving tribute “John Coltrane” showcase Jordan’s robust tone and masterful phrasing, supported by Walton’s elegant touch and Higgins’ effortless swing. Warmly recorded and rich in spirit, Night of the Mark VII stands as one of Jordan’s finest sessions—a must for collectors and fans of classic, acoustic modern jazz.
