Fontaines D.C. return with their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, released via XL Recordings and produced by James Ford.

Following 2024’s UK platinum-certified Romance, the Dublin band push their sound further into new territory. Cold synthesiser tones, marching drums, samples and triggers sit alongside sweeping strings inspired by 1960s Italian pop, with several tracks abandoning guitars altogether.

Featuring lead single Marianne, Dopamine Chamber explores pleasure, escapism and unease in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, environmental collapse, political violence and the constant noise of online life.

“The album itself is a dopamine chamber,” explains Grian Chatten. “You step inside and we test these different mind- or mood-altering pieces of music on you.”

Recorded with James Ford across London, the English countryside and Palermo, the album continues Fontaines D.C.’s refusal to repeat themselves. From Dogrel and A Hero’s Death through Skinty Fia and Romance, each record has shifted the band somewhere new. Dopamine Chamber takes perhaps their biggest leap yet, moving away from the guitar-led sound of their earlier work towards something colder, stranger and more synthetic.

For guitarist Conor Curley, that shift was deliberate: “I was trying to find stuff that pointed into the future.”

Dark, atmospheric and deliberately unsettling, Dopamine Chamber captures Fontaines D.C. at another point of transformation, questioning where we escape to when the outside world becomes impossible to ignore.
