The Fabulous Our Man in The Field return for another show at Smokey Joe's.

Described by Bob Harris as “sensational,” they’ve had a landmark year with shows at Glastonbury, the Royal Albert Hall, and Hyde Park opening for Neil Young.

Their forthcoming album Silverado was recorded at Mark Knopfler’s legendary British Grove Studios, produced and performed on by Dire Straits’ Guy Fletcher, with special guests including slide-guitar icon Sonny Landreth and soul legend PP Arnold.

This is a rare chance to hear the songs up close in an intimate setting before the record is released.

⭐ Americana UK (on The Company of Strangers)

“An outstanding debut from a brilliant singer-songwriter. Ellis’s voice is warm and emotive, and his songs are full of beautiful imagery and storytelling.”

⭐ Folk Radio UK

“He has a real gift for writing observational songs with a cinematic quality... like a cross between early Neil Young and a British Jason Isbell.”

⭐ Americana Highways (on Gold on the Horizon)

“Our Man in the Field brings together warmth, melancholy, and a deep well of storytelling. Think Ray Lamontagne meets The Delines — but with a distinctly British soul.”

⭐ Maverick Magazine

“Alex Ellis’s vocals are both delicate and compelling. The instrumentation is subtle but sophisticated, and every song feels lived-in and honest.”

⭐ Atwood Magazine

“A masterclass in subtle songwriting... balancing fragility and strength with poetic grace.”

⭐ Bill Bentley, Neil Young’s publicist writing in Americana Highways

"The level of sensitivity laced into the music and the lyrics of Alex Ellis are nothing short of wondrous. Really. Modern music is the history of songs that carry the ability to stop listeners in their tracks and offer a new path of understanding. Albums like this come along every decade or so and really do offer stepping stones to sanity. Even better, songs like “Come Back to Me,” “L’Etranger,” “Glad to See You” and “Long Forgotten” present themselves as private anthems for those searching for something to believe in. Ellis’ voice carries a sense of timelessness to it, and it melds with his lyrics like a man finding a vision in the nick of time. And like so much of heart-healing songs like these, its power is offered immediately."
