Product Description

The original classic recordings of songs performed by The Beatles onstage in Hamburg.
2 CD set, 68 tracks with a 36-page booklet.
'We were born in Liverpool but we grew up in Hamburg' John Lennon.
By far the best pop group of all time, the Beatles changed attitudes surrounding music, culture, fashion, politics, morals, everything.
They changed the world.
The group served an extraordinary apprenticeship in the blue collar bars and rock 'n' roll clubs of Hamburg's St Pauli district.
There, in squalid conditions, before an audience that included gangsters and prostitutes, drunken sailors and aggressive local rockers, they honed their presentational skills, evolved their image and fostered the humour and pioneering musical spirit that would define their future success.
To meet the demands imposed on them - a gruelling 800 hours onstage over a year and a half - the Beatles' repertoire was necessarily vast and varied.
Their "Sound" evolved from it.
Necessity encouraged an eclecticism that set them apart and perhaps lay the groundwork for such mid-sixties masterpieces 'Rubber Soul' and 'Revolver'.
The panorama of influences involved unadulterated rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, rockabilly, show tunes, film themes and also the most eloquent new pop songwriting of the day - which Lennon and McCartney were inspired to emulate - that of Buddy Holly and Goffin and King.
Many of the songs performed by The Beatles onstage in Hamburg would be recorded for the early albums, appear in radio sessions, or surface later on their respective solo projects.
Hamburg was a hard school.
It was where it all began..
